James Lowry
Rams= span>ay Ward
Incumbent Jim
Lowry of RR 3 Almonte
says he is running
in this election because he is "interested in the well being of
the municipality as a council" and he wants to be involved in
improving the town's infrastructure and services every year.
Lowry is a well known, long =
time
local politician having
served as a Mississippi Mills councillor for six years; Ramsay
Township councillor for eight years, deputy reeve for six years,
and reeve for three years. Of those years, he spent nine years on
Lanark County Council.
Among the many groups and
organizations Lowry has been
involved with over the years, he has been on the Mississippi
Valley Conservation board for eight years, is a founding member
of the Ahnonte-Ramsay Fire Committee. =
He was
also a former
president of the Lanark Mutual Insurance Company, a found-
ing director and president of the Lanark County Plowmen's
Association, and founding director of the James Naismith
Basketball Foundation.
Lowry says there are key iss=
ues in
the community which he
hopes to help address, which include supporting local agricul-
ture. Farmers are aging, are facing increasing expenses and
decreasing produce returns. He also says farmers need to be
protected from forceful provincial regulations. Lowry is also
interested in improving commercial business, as sometimes the
process for rezoning or accommodating
commercial businesses
takes too long.
Lowry is a long-time farmer.=
He is
married to wife Sandra and
has two children, Bonnie and Neil.
