OUR COUNCIL, 2010 to 2014

Communiqué

The Communiqué is a gritty, "no holds barred" look at governance and leadership in our community. It aims to inform readers, provoke consideration of issues and facilitate civic debate in our Town on a continuous basis, rather than through one vote every four years. To get yourself on our distribution list, email the MMRA Board at info@mmra.ca, indicating in what part of Mississippi Mills you reside.

For the 2010 Municipal Election

For the 2010 Municipal Elections, your MMRA Board actively participated in promoting discussion and dialogue in support of election awareness:

1. The MMRA Board published a survey of pre-election issues during May to June, 2010, with interesting results.

2. The MMRA Board offered high school students the opportunity of earning quality community service volunteer hours in support of non-partisan election activities during the summer months.

3. The MMRA developed a guide and encouraged residents to have informal Kitchen Table sessions with neighbours and friends, to host and hear from ward candidates. At least half a dozen were conducted in Ramsay Ward and we believe there were several in Pakenham and Almonte too.

4. The MMRA sponsored the well-attended Ramsay All Candidates Session at the Almonte Old Town Hall, to complement sessions for Pakenham Ward and Almonte Ward. Ward candidates, mayoral candidates and school trustees participated.

For the voters of Mississippi Mills we had taken some time to research and publish items of interest to residents, so that voters could focus on the issues and question the candidates. Still a good read!
